Don’t let summer storms get the best of you!
The weather is finally starting to stabilize and summer days are around the corner. This is great news and if you’re like me I’m ready to hit the nearest beach. As much fun as we have during the summer we have to also think about the many different summer storms that can occur. With that said, is your family prepared? If you are, I’m sending you two cool brownie points! If you’re not don’t fret. Below are a few tips to help you get your family prepared PRONTO!
First, you need to make sure you designate a safe place to go to if the weather gets bad. It could be a basement, closet, or room with no windows or outside walls. You will need to make sure that this area is clear of stuff so that there’s plenty of space for the entire family to get inside if the need arises. The last thing you would want is to worry about clearing out your safe space if a tornado is pressing down on you!
Second, create or buy a small emergency kit. Here are a few things to include in your emergency kit:
- Bottled water
- Canned, non-perishable food
- First Aid supplies (Band-Aids, Neosporin cream, alcohol swabs, etc.)
- Pet supplies & food (Fluffy & Scruffy need protection too!)

Third, keep an up-to-date list of emergency phone numbers in your cell phone or on your tablet to include the phone numbers for your agent & insurance company! And don’t forget to save a list of your policy numbers too! If you have to file a claim having this information will make the process go a lot smoother and faster!
See, that wasn’t too bad after all. You may not be able to prevent bad weather, but you can be as prepared as possible when and if it happens.
